About
Over the course of my degree I have expanded my skills and knowledge of costume making, through creating historical garments, prop elements and dance costume, for all genders. In particular, I have developed a passion for pattern cutting and have already gained a collection of books so I can continue this love straight out of university.
My final major project involved bringing to life a Victorian illustration from Punch, a satirical magazine. The illustration came from a series called Designs After Nature and portrayed a woman encompassing the beauty of a butterfly including the wings! I enjoyed creating every detail from head to toe and embraced the prop-like nature of some of the elements.
For my initial project in level 6, I worked as part of a team of costume interpreters on the AUB Dance production The Maker and the Muse creating a range of costumes from a soft tailored jacket and trousers to hand-dyed and foiled calico jackets and skirt. I explored and developed a large range of skills on this unit from working with stretch fabric to appliqué to dyeing. I particularly enjoyed getting to tap into my creative side to best portray the designers’ vision.
